The Elves and The Shoemaker
There was once a poor shoemaker. He had only enough leather for one last pair of shoes. That night, he cut out the leather and went to bed, trusting everything would be okay. The next morning, he was shocked to find the shoes were already made! They were perfect, with not one bad stitch. A customer soon came and paid well for the shoes, so the shoemaker bought leather for two more pairs.
This happened every night. The shoemaker would cut the leather, and by morning, the shoes were finished. Soon, he became successful and happy again.
One night, before Christmas, the shoemaker and his wife decided to stay awake to see who was helping them. At midnight, two little elves came in and began to make the shoes quickly and perfectly. The shoemaker and his wife were amazed.
The next day, the wife said, “We should thank the elves. They work so hard and have no clothes. I will make them little shirts, coats, and pants. You can make them shoes.” The shoemaker agreed.
When the clothes were ready, they put them on the table instead of leather. That night, the elves came again. When they saw the clothes, they were happy! They quickly put them on, sang and danced around, and then left. After that, they never came back, but the shoemaker lived well and happy for the rest of his life.
